ABOUT THE RIDE:

This 135km Tour departs from Eildon, heading straight into some amazing off-road trails with our first stop being Snobs Creek Falls. Snobs falls drops water 100m down into the gully, we get a birds eye view from a manmade steel platform counter levered out beside the falls. The powerful noise of the water crashing over the rocks almost takes away the sounds of the Lyrebirds from the surrounding forrest. We saddle up and climb our way into the Rubicon State Forest with an awesome viewpoint over Lake Eildon and the Pondage. Our journey continues down alongside the Rubicon river passing the Historic Rubicon Hydro Power Station which in the 1930’s contributed to one fifth of Victorias electricity needs. Rubicon is scattered with relics, old post office, dams, aqueducts and tramway bridges, so keep your eyes peeled as we ride bye. We head up a track we call 1000 washouts for obvious reasons, as we get higher the surface becomes steeper and more technical and we enter some seasonal areas, closed by the authorities in the wetter months. We pass through some amazing Hardwood forests some of these trees are the tallest flowering plants in the world, and they provide good shade which retains moisture in the soil no matter what time of year. The sensational mixture of tracks continue to lunch, with some of a faster pace blasting along the ridge lines. We roll down into our lunch spot at Stockmans Reward crossing Big River along the way, ready for recharge. We warm our bums by the fire, and tuck into some delicious cooked grub to refuel the body.

Leaving Stockmans there are some cool views looking down into Big River as it twists and turns out of sight. We follow a ridge line that is some of the best high country riding around, getting well up over 1200m altitude. In the winter months snow will be present in these areas including Mcadams Gap Hotel which is lodged on the top of a mountain at 1250m altitude. Entering the pub is an experience of its own, seeing the giant steam engine fire place and carved timber bench tops which create great conversation points over a few cold ones. We shower and set ourselves up in the dorm style accommodation, heading back to the warm pub for a cooked meal and a few more froffies. Stories get told and we do a few giveaways before we call it a night.

Day 2: Starting the day with coffee and cooked breakfast, we prepare ourselves for the journey back. We take a few different tracks covering 85km more of this amazing countryside, before returning back to Eildon early afternoon. Wizza will have a cooked lunch ready so you can get packed up and have a decent meal before making your way home.
